This comprehensive guide gives you an overview of all Erasmus grants and financial aid available in 2025/26 to help you go abroad for an internship. 🌍

A work placement abroad is not just a nice line on your CV – it’s a real personal and professional springboard. Cultural immersion, greater independence, language practice, new skills… the benefits are huge.

Thanks to the many existing international mobility schemes, this experience is now more accessible than ever. With years of experience and daily contact with French students, Stud&Globe experts know just how crucial financial questions are when it comes to going abroad. For many, it’s a decisive factor – and sometimes even what prevents the project from becoming reality.

🎓 Erasmus+ grants: the must-have aid for going abroad in Europe

Every year, the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission funds and supports thousands of students in their international mobility through dedicated Erasmus grants.

The goal: to encourage student mobility and enable them to complete an internship in another programme country.

Any student enrolled in a higher education institution in a participating country who wishes to do an internship in another programme country can therefore benefit from an Erasmus+ grant.

One important advantage: this grant is awarded without means-testing and is compatible with a CROUS scholarship and other regional or national aid.

💶 Erasmus+ internship grant amounts (2025)

In 2025, Erasmus+ grant amounts were slightly increased to better support students in the face of rising living costs across Europe.

  • Between €550 and €750 per month for countries with a high cost of living (group 1): Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and Liechtenstein.
  • Between €450 and €600 per month for countries with a medium or lower cost of living (groups 2 and 3): Spain, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, etc.

Good to know:

  • Eligible internship duration: from 2 months minimum to 12 months maximum per study cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD).
  • An “inclusion top-up” of €250/month may be granted to students with disabilities, in situations of financial hardship, or receiving social aid.
  • A green travel grant (train, car-sharing, bus) can also be awarded, between €50 and €500 depending on the distance travelled.
  • The Erasmus+ grant is compatible with other types of support (CROUS, AMI, regional aid).
  • The internship must be covered by an agreement and fully integrated into your study programme: without academic validation, the grant may be refused.

💡 Erasmus+ grants provide a contribution towards your living and travel costs: they don’t always cover all expenses, but they make it much easier to carry out an international mobility project.

To find out the exact amounts applied by your institution, contact the International Relations Office or consult the Erasmus+ Student Charter on the official website of the European Commission.

🎓 The International Mobility Grant (AMI)

The International Mobility Grant (Aide à la Mobilité Internationale – AMI) is a scheme set up by the French Ministry of Higher Education and managed by the CROUS. Its purpose is to support international mobility for students who already receive a social-criteria grant, making it easier for them to complete an internship or study period abroad without financial barriers holding them back.

AMI is a key tool for equal opportunities: it aims to give more students the chance to live a meaningful international experience, without the cost of the project becoming an obstacle.

Combined with other schemes such as Erasmus+ or regional support like CROUS grants, AMI makes stays abroad more accessible and achievable for everyone.

As a genuine inclusion tool, AMI helps students take the leap and go abroad, while providing additional financial support to cover part of their accommodation, transport and daily living expenses.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be a CROUS social-criteria grant holder or receive an annual specific financial aid.
  • Be enrolled in an institution under the authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (university, school, BTS, etc.).
  • Complete an international mobility stay (internship or studies) lasting between 1 and 10 consecutive months.
  • The mobility project must be formally approved and integrated into your study programme.

💰 Amount of AMI in 2025–26: €400 per month, for a period of between 1 and 10 months maximum.

🌍 Mobility grants offered by your region

Many French regions support international student mobility by providing additional grants that top up national schemes. Each region sets its own eligibility criteria, amounts and priorities (destination countries, length of stay, social criteria, etc.).

Among the regions offering mobility grants:

  • Auvergne Rhône-Alpes
  • Occitanie
  • Île-de-France
  • Grand-Est
  • Région Sud
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
  • Bretagne
  • Pays de la Loire
  • Centre – Val de Loire
  • Bourgogne Franche-Comté
  • Normandie
  • Hauts-de-France

These regional schemes are an excellent financial boost to help make an internship or study stay abroad a reality.

Thanks to this range of financial support — Erasmus+ grants, AMI and regional grants — your international mobility project has never been more within reach.
