Frequently asked questions

The NIE (Numéro d’Identification d’Étranger) is a unique number assigned to foreign nationals in Spain, and is required to carry out various administrative and tax procedures. It is required for actions such as opening a bank account, signing an employment contract, buying property, or declaring taxes. The NIE can be requested from the national police or immigration services in Spain, and is valid throughout your stay, even if you are not a permanent resident. This number is essential for anyone carrying out professional or administrative activities in the country.

If your NIE is lost or stolen, it’s crucial to report the incident to the police, then request a replacement from the Spanish authorities (national police, embassy or consulate). Be sure to follow the steps quickly to protect your information and avoid any complications.

There are two types of NIE:

  • CARTE NIE :

You can obtain this number in person or by proxy
