What language do I need to speak to do an internship in Barcelona?

Spanish: Desirable, often necessary to work in a local company.
English: Perfect for international companies and some startups, but a level of Spanish is advisable for social and professional interactions.
Catalan: Rarely essential.

Where to live in Barcelona

If you're looking for a lively, central neighborhood: choose Eixample, Gràcia or El Raval.
If you prefer a quiet, residential neighborhood: Sants-Montjuïc or Poblenou may be good options.
If you want a good compromise between price and atmosphere: Poble Sec or Sant Antoni are perfect. The important thing is to find a neighborhood that is well connected to your internship location and offers a good quality of life during your stay.

How does Barcelona's transport network work?

Barcelona's public transport network is very well developed, with many options to suit all needs: metro, bus, streetcar, commuter trains, and even bike-sharing. Fares are affordable, and there are many cards and passes for students and frequent travelers.
T-Casual: A multi-use ticket valid for 10 journeys on public transport (metro, bus, streetcar, train). It costs around €11 and is valid for 30 days. T-10: A card that offers 10 journeys and can be used on all means of transport. It costs around €10.
T-Jove card: Special card for young people under 25, allowing unlimited travel on public transport for a monthly subscription of around €40.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, it’s advisable to take out health insurance before you leave. If you’re from the EU, you can use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to access public health care in Spain. If you come from another country, we recommend that you take out international health insurance to cover your medical needs during your stay.
Barcelona offers many leisure options, including: – Beaches: Barceloneta beach is ideal for relaxing in the sun or enjoying water sports. – Sights: Discover emblematic monuments such as the Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Casa Batlló, and La Rambla. Hiking: For nature lovers, Montjuïc and Parc de Collserola offer beautiful walks and breathtaking views over the city. – Nightlife: Barcelona is known for its lively nightlife, with bars, clubs and concerts in neighborhoods like El Born, Raval and Eixample. – Museums: Enjoy art museums like the Museu Picasso and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC).
The cost of living in Barcelona is higher than in other Spanish cities, but still reasonable compared to other major European cities such as Paris or London. Accommodation can be one of the biggest expenses, especially in central or tourist areas. Restaurant meals are affordable, and supermarkets offer a wide range of products to suit all budgets. However, it can be more expensive to go out in very touristy areas.
