She became the patron saint of the city in the 19th century, and the current festival took shape at the beginning of the 20th century.<\/p>\n<p>But today? <strong>La Merc\u00e8<\/strong> is above all THE major secular festival of Barcelona. Concerts, shows, Catalan traditions, street celebrations, local pride. The Castells: human towers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, <strong>castells<\/strong> are human towers that can reach up to 10 levels.<\/p>\n<h3>How does it work?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>colla<\/strong>, meaning a team, builds a living tower in balance.<\/li>\n<li>A child aged 5 to 8, called the <strong>enxaneta<\/strong>, climbs all the way to the top.<\/li>\n<li>They raise their hand as a sign of victory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where can you see it?
